Race: Kathy’s Run for Pancreatic Cancer Canada
Edmonton – $37,467.00
Calgary – $33,769.00
Total donations and pledges – $71,236.00
Now in its seventh year, Kathy’s Run has raised over $750,000 towards pancreatic cancer research and hosted thousands of runners in Edmonton and Calgary. Wearing their best purple outfits, participants take part in a 5K, 10K or 21.1K, challenging themselves and raising awareness. Receiving less than 2% of government funding, pancreatic cancer is set to be the second deadliest cancer in North America by 2020.
“Thanks to partnerships like the one we have with Jessica Laird, Danielle Brown and the Running Room, Pancreatic Cancer Canada has been able to establish the first Canadian Pancreatic Oncology Network, called PancOne,” says Michelle Capobianco, Executive Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation. “PancOne is a multi-disciplinary partnership between major cancer centres aiming to evaluate metastatic pancreatic cancer molecular signatures in a clinical trial setting.” The $71,236 raised this year by Kathy’s Run will being going directly to this new research initiative.
