I’ve spent the last fifteen years travelling the world and running everywhere I can, from the Netherlands to Nepal, from Jordan to Japan and from Antigua to Azerbaijan.
During my travels I’ve met many people from all walks of life. And, regardless of where I am when running, or when speaking with people abroad or back in Canada, one inevitable question always comes up: Where is my favorite place to run? Running and traveling is my life. It’s who I am, it’s what I’m passionate about and it’s how I make my living. That said, I’m not a professional runner nor a professional traveler. I’ve never once been paid to lace up, but I’ve found a way to marry my two biggest passions and scratch out a humble living. I’ll never get rich in the traditional sense, nor even come close while living my life like this, and that’s okay as I feel extremely rich where it matters most to me. I recently celebrated 11 years at the Running Room home office where I currently work in the Purchasing department, having also spent time in Accounts Payable and Payroll.
When I started here, I hadn’t been running since college, but I thought that since I was working for a company that promoted healthy living, I would start running again. Since then, I have completed numerous 5K and 10K events.
This playlist is different than what I usually listen to which is sports radio or Garner Andrews on Sonic. These songs are 180 beats per minute, which is the ideal running cadence.
Over the next few months, we will be featuring Q & As with our sponsored RRAC (Running Room Athletic Club) athletes . Today, meet Ryan Brockerville!
For new readers, please introduce yourself, including what you are up to now and how you are connected to the Running Room:
Hi! My name is Charmaine Broughton, I’m the mom of two teen boys (Tyler 17 and Colgan 16) and a female Goldendoodle. I fell in love with running shortly after the birth of my second son. For close to a dozen years I was the food writer for Running Room Magazine–a role I took a tremendous amount of pride in. I currently work as a food media specialist and have recently started a part-time dog walking biz (in Muskoka, where I live) – Pawketz Dog Walking (named after our two-year-old pup, Pockets). After years of distance running [a handful of full marathons, countless half marathons and a half Ironman (how I celebrated my 40th birthday)], these days you can find me with excitement at the start line of 5K s–nothing like easily getting on and off the toilet in the days post-race. Those who are distance runners know what I’m talking about.

The 34th Annual Resolution Run was held across Canada and the United States on December 31st and January 1st.
Brave-hearted and high-spirited, runners faced snowstorms in Moncton; high winds and ice pellets in Halifax and mild temperatures and green grass in Abbotsford and Langley.
With the satisfaction of the 5K complete, and wearing their hard-won Resolution Run jackets and medals, finishers celebrated together over hot drinks and warm food.
