On December 7th, in 37 cities across Canada, more than 16,000 runners, walkers and four-legged friends came together to raise funds for local Salvation Army initiatives.
In partnership with Running Room, the Santa Shuffle 5K Fun Run and 1K Elf Walk is a family-friendly event designed to raise awareness and much-needed support for The Salvation Army’s programs and services such as food banks, financial assistance for children’s camps, shelter services and more. It was a unique scene on November 19 at the Eau Claire Running Room in Calgary. Instead of the usual crowd of adult runners, the store was packed with Girl Guides. The energy was palpable as marathon running legend Martin Parnell and award-winning filmmaker Kate McKenzie announced that Girl Guides of Canada will be the new charity partner for The Secret 3K annual run/walk. The run takes place during the week of International Women’s Day and celebrates gender equality as well as creating safe spaces to be active. This year’s event will take place on March 4, 2020. Organizing a one-time Guinness World Record race in September 2019 was a way to cultivate a different image of Pakistan. The Khunjerab Pass Challenge had three distances: 21.1K, 42.2K or 50K. They were the highest altitude road races ever held. Canadian Ziyad Rahim, who holds multiple world records in running, was the catalyst for this event.
