Name: Alexandre Ricard
Years of competing: 18 years
When did you start running: at 11 years old
Biggest accomplishments to date: 6th at the Usport CX– 2016
Occupation: Massage Therapist
Favourite race? The annual Laval University cross-country race held at the Plaines d’Abraham in Quebec city.
What are your favourite pre-race and post-race meals?
Pre: oatmeal
Post: I don’t really have a favorite meal, but I definitely like to eat candy after a race.
What is your favourite way to rest and recover?
A lot of sleep, the massage ball and the foam roller.
Tell us something not many people know about you.
I first started competing as a sprinter. I was 12-years-old, but my coach figured out I would be better in middle distance.
Who in the sport today do you look up to?
Fabian Cancellara: He has no fear to take the lead, to push himself and to give everything in a race.
What do you do to compliment your training?
Bouldering and rock climbing. Stories about running also keep me motivated and focused.
Could you recommend a running-related book that you have found influential?
Running with the Buffaloes by Chris Lear (a must during a cross country season)
Racing the rain by John L. Parker (excellent fiction book)
Race morning routine?
I like to wake up at least two and a half hours before a race and I start my day with a coffee, oatmeal and a lot of water.
