Servus Edmonton Marathon Ambassador: Meet Jeff!

We have selected 10 enthusiastic runners to be the friendly faces of the 2018 Servus Edmonton Marathon! They’ll be sharing race updates and training tips to support and inspire our running community along the way. Learn more about them- meet Jeff!

How many years have you been running?
Been running fun runs since I was a teenager, but seriously running for the last 3 years.

Why do you run?
What started out as knocking the marathon off my bucket list, is now a lifestyle! It is my social life and I have already met so many lifelong friends through running, it keeps me fit all year round, and it’s an awesome stress reliever and above all, allows me to push and challenge myself to see my true fitness potential!

What is your favourite distance to run and why?
I love the half marathon as it combines the element of speed and endurance, but I feel the most accomplished completing a marathon as I know it’s more of a mental challenge than physical. The marathon is the ultimate test to know what I’m made of as an athlete, and as a person.

What advice would you give someone who is training for a race for the first time?
Find a local run club. This will not only keep you accountable, but training with others keeps running fun, social, and brings new friendships and training partners. I have met so many people through joining run clubs, and have travelled with many of them already to races!

How would you describe your running playlist?
A wide range of music from pop, to rock, to electronic dance music for the race!

What other forms of fitness do you enjoy?
Weight training (to stay overall fit and functional), and other forms of circuit training.

Why should people run the Servus Edmonton Marathon?
It definitely showcases Edmonton’s beautiful scenery, landmarks, and the downtown core! Its also a fast and flat course if you’re looking for a new personal best or qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

What is your favourite route to run in Edmonton?
In the river valley around downtown!

Where is the coolest place you have ever run?
I will be in Boston next year, but can’t beat the Vancouver Sea Wall!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Ice Cream – lots of it!
