Servus Edmonton Marathon Ambassador: Meet Jaime!

Share

We have selected 10 enthusiastic runners to be the friendly faces of the 2018 Servus Edmonton Marathon! They’ll be sharing race updates and training tips to support and inspire our running community along the way. Learn more about them- meet Jaime!

How many years have you been running?
9

Why do you run?
Sanity! And to manage my weight.

What is your favourite distance to run and why?
The half marathon. It’s enough to exhaust you and feel accomplished without having a lengthy recovery!

How would you describe your running playlist?
Random! One minute it’s the soundtrack from Wicked, then it’s Joel Plaskett, AC/DC, Tupac and Lady Gaga.

Why should people run the Servus Edmonton Marathon?
It’s so well organized and has a great vibe. The whole city seems to get into it, with people cheering almost the whole way! The views of the river valley are incredible and… it’s pretty flat!

What other forms of fitness do you enjoy?
I teach spin and boot camps as well as coach running out of the South Common Running Room so clearly I enjoy the gym! I also love biking, hiking, paddling and snowshoeing.

What advice would you give someone who is training for a race for the first time?
Trust the process and dedicate yourself to it. The plans work if you do them!

What is your favourite route to run in Edmonton?
The loop from Fort Edmonton to Laurier, Hawrelak and back past the Equine centre. A mix of paved, double and single track with a variety of flats and hills.

Where is the coolest place you have ever run?
The hypo half? Oh wait. Not that kind of cool. I probably enjoyed the Vancouver Marathon most other than our river valley. So scenic!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Soft ginger cookies and post-run beer, hands down (not together though… blech).
